Bedouin Soundclash – Light The Horizon Released 23rd May on Pirates Blend Records
I for one, am quite glad that Bedouin Soundclash are back and have a great new album for us. A band that are often called reggae but actually mix reggae, rock, punk and soul to create their unique sound. Light The Horizon is the fourth album from the band and is out on 23rd May, recorded via the band’s own label Pirates Blend Records (a positive thing to see in the industry at the moment.)
Although this album has an eclectic mix of styles there are still tracks such as A Chance of Rain, The Quick & The Dead and Mountain Top that feature the syncopated island beat fans come to expect. If I am honest I would like to hear a few more of those tracks on the record, but maybe I was just spoilt with previous favourite songs from the band! The rest of the album does anything but disappoint though. The duet on Brutal Hearts between Malinowski and Beatrice Martin (aka Coeur de pirate) is both a perfect pairing and hauntingly beautiful. Elongo is another one of the stand out tracks for me from this album as it has a monumental chorus and with the added string arrangements it lifts the song onto a whole new level of epic-ness!
Songs such as No One Moves, No One Gets Hurt and May You Be The Road showcase the effortless distinctive vocal harmonies, which sound very natural and add to the ethereal sound the band seem to be moving towards with this album.
Co-founder and bassist Eon Sinclair talks about the record: “It’s a really optimistic and hopeful record,” he says. “That’s been said about some of the stuff we’ve done in the past, but this time we’re just feeling more self-assured and more confident in doing what it is that we do in Bedouin Soundclash. It’s positive and optimistic and forward-looking.”
They have succeeded in making this a positive and evocative album and there is definitely an element of hope in most of the songs. It becomes very cohesive when you read what the band were aiming for then go and listen to the album again with a different perspective. (Not many albums have made me do that!)
Bedouin Soundclash are doing shows in the UK in May and I will definitely be there! Will you?

Well this is just a firework of electro pop! The Good Natured have a new EP out called Skeleton, which is being released on 20th June 2011.
The Good Natured consists of Sarah McIntosh; the songwriter and front-woman; George on drums and her brother Hamish McIntosh on bass. Sarah takes on the front-woman persona with full force and manages to make catchy pop melodies swerve into the darker gothic world of electro pop. I really quite like it. Watch the music video below for the single, have a listen and make up your own mind… but I have a feeling that they are going to be gaining more and more interest very soon. (Starting here – naturally!)
Remember when I interviewed Emily and the Woods back HERE? Well this talented lady is hosting her EP launch party on Wednesday 4th May at The North London Tavern and I thought I would let you in on a secret… you need to be there!
Not only is she a talented performer with great folk songs but she is also bloody hilarious! If folk music and great songwriting is your thing, then you really should check Emily Wood out. Get your tickets from the link below and get out and see some great live music.
Here it is, we saw the star studded trailer and now we have the full length short film with even more famous funny people! This is all in anticipation for the newest release from Beastie Boys, Hot Sauce Committee Part 2, which is being released on 2nd May 2011. It may be 30 minutes long but it is well worth watching the full movie, it gets better and better!
And as if this little gem wasn’t enough you can also stream the full album for FREE right HERE.
The well known British actor Hugh Laurie, famous for his roles in Blackadder and more recently the American TV series House has come back on the scene with a new blues album! I can honestly say I didn’t see that coming, but as far as blues goes I quite like the tracks.
This is Hugh performing Swanee River on Later with Jools Holland recently:
The response to the previews of the album so far have been very positive and although some might think it is just another blues album, he is a good piano player and has got some classic blues tracks on this album. To find out more about why he even decided to get into music have a read of his amusing bio at his website to get a better understanding:
“I was not born in Alabama in the 1890s. You may as well know this now. I’ve never eaten grits, cropped a share, or ridden a boxcar. No gypsy woman said anything to my mother when I was born and there’s no hellhound on my trail, as far as I can judge. Let this record show that I am a white, middle-class Englishman, openly trespassing on the music and myth of the American south.”
The album, Let Them Talk is released on May 9th in Europe and will be supported by live shows. A couple of which are in May – get your tickets quick! Hugh Laurie Tickets
