This time we are shining the spotlight directly on Los Angeles duo, The Milk Carton Kids. A friend of mine who knows all about the country and folk music scenes was the one who pointed me in their direction, word of mouth wins again! It appears that the popularity of artists such as The Civil Wars has reignited the love for the genre over here in the UK. The duo released two albums in 2011 (both of which are available for FREE DOWNLOAD over on their website). We heard very little from them until recently when another album was released called The Ash & Clay.
They have gained a solid following since forming in 2011 and Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan definitely deserve recognition for their musical talent. Their bio states that, “While their most obvious musical reference is the classic folk revival sound of twin acoustic guitars and matching harmonies, the band both expands and contradicts that rich legacy with highly inventive guitar lines and their intricately interwoven vocals.” I personally love the sound of two vocals and two guitars working so well together but they also have an edge of rawness about their songs. The band recently toured this side of the pond and I hear that the performance was great and their onstage banter was a close second to the music!
