You may well have heard about the two Scottish rappers who conned the music industry into thinking they were Californian rap stars in order to be taken seriously and get a record deal. Well, we sat down with Brains Mcloud from the duo Silibil ‘N Brains to talk to him about his journey through the industry, his passions and thoughts on how to get ahead in the game.
The duo were recently featured on BBC iPlayer in a documentary called The Great Hip Hop Hoax. It is a fascinating insight into their world and the ups and downs and well worth a watch. He raises some interesting points as to why changing your accent would make a difference in the music you create. However, it is clear to see that it is all about being a marketable package for the music companies to sell on easily. Do you agree or disagree with Brains Mcloud’s thoughts on this?
Check out the interview below and then have a listen to a clip of Brains doing a verse of Sid Vicious to Tech N9ne’s World Wide Choppers beat.
