Arguably one of the biggest Australian musicians of this generation is gracing the shores (or rather the slightly grimy city venues) of the UK for his biggest UK tour to date. The John Butler Trio will be over here in April and May following the release of their sixth studio album, ‘Flesh & Blood’ on 3rd February 2014.
The John Butler Trio has changed it’s line up over the years, obviously with John Butler himself as the constant through out. Personally I think that it helps to keep sounds different and evolving when you switch things up like they do. This tour and album will be the first with the current new line up with new drummer, percussionist and backing vocalist Grant Gerathy.
Although it has been close to 4 years since the last release from the band, they haven’t just been sitting around sunning themselves. I’m sure some of that did happen but they have also been very busy touring the world, playing their part in fighting for environmental causes in Australia, and releasing two live albums, ‘Live at Red Rocks‘ and ‘Tin Shed Tales‘. Not to mention writing and recording ‘Flesh & Blood‘.
Words of wisdom from the ever eloquent John Butler on the new album: “I hope they take it with them on a journey. I hope it can be the soundtrack for some great moments in their life and some shit moments in their life and I hope it can be there for them at the ebb of their energy wave and at the crest of it. In the loud times and the quiet times.”
2014 John Butler Trio UK tour dates are as follows:
April 26 O2 Academy, Glasgow
April 27 Academy, Manchester
April 29 Rock City, Nottingham
April 30 Brixton Academy, London
May 2 O2 Academy, Bristol
May 3 Pavillions, Plymouth
Get your tickets from the links in the sidebar and make sure you pre-order the album, I’ve had a sneaky listen to it and it does not disappoint. It has the same touches we all love but some new vibes to make it stand out and stand alone from previous albums.
