Allow me to set the scene for this one… nestled on a mountain in the beautiful islands of the Philippines is Malasimbo Music & Arts festival where you can enjoy great music, island hopping, jet skiing, diving and heaps more. It’s quite unlike any UK festival that you have been to that’s for sure!
The first lot of artists have been announced and they include Jose Gonzalez, Robert Glasper Experiement, Roy Ayers & Lonnie Liston Smith amongst a host of talented festival artists and bands.
Malasimbo Music Festival returns for it’s fourth time around between 27th February – 3rd March on the quite stunning Mount Malasimbo in Puerto Galera. This is quite the dreamy location for a festival, no freezing torrential rain and mud pits here. This festival is all about grass roots and supporting local culture and their environment.
There are loads of things to get stuck into as well, it’s not just about drinking, dancing and appreciating the music! Every year members of Philippine indigenous communities are invited to perform their local dances, to present their products and to hold workshops teaching weaving techniques or other local crafts at Malasimbo. The Foundation even built a life-size Mangyan Village on the festival grounds that feature the lifestyle, handicrafts, language, and music of the 7 Mangyan tribes of Mindoro. I like the sound of that!
This festival probably has it all. Great music, local culture, stunning setting and scenery, gorgeous weather, waterfalls galore and quite frankly too much to list here!
A full 3-day festival ticket is just £82. All you have to do is sort your flights (from around £350) and get on the plane. If I wasn’t already going out of the country I would have been VERY tempted.
