Today saw me heading to Brooklyn to interview a few talented musicians. The day did end up being more than I thought it would be so that was a bonus! First off was meeting with an exciting new artist that is definitely one to watch. Her name is Masha and she is a 23 year old rock singer with some talented writing skills to match her vocal talents. She is signed to Claude Kelly’s label and definitely has a great team of people working with her. You can sample some of her music on Spotify or watch her wide range of covers on her YouTube channel.
Masha was kind enough to sign a few CDs of her debut EP “Stupid, Stupid Dreams” so make sure you follow Milky Tea Kid on Twitter to find out how you can win them. I’ll be announcing it in a few weeks. We ended up doing the interview in a very cool house that is the home of about 15 musicians. The house had instruments everywhere and a really creative vibe to it. I almost moved in. One of those musicians that we bumped into in the house was Jay Jennings of Snarky Puppy, who recently won a Grammy along with Lalah Hathaway for “Best R&B Performance” for their rendition of the Brenda Russell song “Something“.
Masha also invited us along to a jam night in Brooklyn with some very talented musicians, including Jay, so we headed to that later in the evening.
After a little pit stop at a cool coffee shop, it was on to the next interview with electro pop trio MisterWives. We arrived at the building and got to the very cool looking loft, where the PR company have their office. After a warm welcome we got on with the interview and had a great time talking to these ace musicians. They were very easy to interview and talk to and keep checking back for the finished interview because there are some really interesting things. (*cough* webbed toes *cough*)
We then headed straight to the jam night at a newly opened venue in Brooklyn called Friends and Lovers. The Jelly is a monthly jam bringing together Brooklyn’s finest musicians and offering a selection of tunes that crate-diggers would drool over. Musicians included Jay on trumpet who is about to go on tour with Toby Keith, Sly who plays sax for Prince, Cooper who is Masha’s drummer and many more insanely talented musicians. It was a pleasure to see them jam.
