Here’s one for the folk fans out there. Don’t be fooled by the name, Aidan Knight are actually a 5 piece band from Canada currently on tour with James Vincent McMorrow. (A very good combination I would say.) Below is the video for their song “Margaret Downe“, which is beautifully shot and somewhat of an ode to the character of Margaret Downe. Check it out:
Aidan Knight are folk based with a nice dose of experimental thrown in, which you will be able to experience by listening to their new album released on April 7th called “Small Reveal“. Imagine this… the beginnings of the band started with songwriter and namesake of the band in a cabin with no running water in rural British Columbia. The music instantly fits with the imagery of the lush green land. The recording of the album made use of reverberant sound of instruments in empty music stores and hallways of family homes to create their dreamy folk blend.
Aidan explains of the band and making of the record, “Everything from horn arrangements to drum fills, they’re things that I could never make up on my own. They’re impossible; only happening because of those 5 people in that certain space. This is an album of music about creating music, the escapism in it and the uncomfortably honesty that hopefully shows itself.” It just goes to show that when you have the right people together in the right atmosphere then you can create something pretty special.
You can catch the band live in London on 16th April at Sebright Arms. Get tickets here!
