We first became aware of singer, producer and video editor Shura back in April, when her debut track ‘Touch‘ was a great success with a positive Internet reaction and over 1 million plays. Radio 1 and 6Music played ‘Touch‘ a fair few times without the need of a radio plugger, and she’s presently unsigned. Just goes to show the power a good song matched with an interesting video has.
Her new song ‘Just Once‘, is just as good and sticks to her smooth electro style. Info on a video to accompany it is still to come, so I wonder what style it will be in this time? ‘Touch‘ may well be hard to beat though.
“The response blew me away,” Shura says now, whose group of friends – volunteering to be filmed kissing for their mate’s DIY music video – suddenly found themselves being turned into gifs. “I wanted to create an unpolished song, with an unpolished sentiment.” It’s this personal but playful twist on the often-luxurious world of R&B which has seen Shura, slowly growing in confidence, emerge as one of the brightest new talents of the year.
