Listen To The Beautiful Harmonies Of The Staves

Posted on 19 March 2012 by milkyteakid

A trio of talented sisters from Watford make up The Staves. I was reintroduced to them by a friend through the video below and I think you should all have a listen as well. I would like to see more of these types of artists in the charts and on the mainstream radio stations, but for now we will have to settle for blogs I guess!

They have beautiful harmonies, being sisters will add to that I’m sure, and they write really GOOD songs. The Staves are an enchanting group, more please. Listen to Mexico below.

Mark B & Blade – The Unknown

Mark B & Blade are a British producer and rapper who worked together in the early noughties on the Hitmen for Hire EP. The Unknown was a hit as well as You Don’t See The Signs which entered the Top 30.

They toured with Eminem in 2001, and despite the success they have since carried on with their solo careers.

The Cutaway + Free Download

Posted on 24 March 2010 by milkyteakid

I came across The Cutaway years ago, but I didn’t quite realise it. It’s one of those 6 degrees of separation things. I had heard the name, and I finally got a chance to hear the music, and I like what I hear!

They have played a crazy amount of gigs, one of which was supporting Kate Voegele of One Tree Hill fame. The EP was recorded live at a house in a number of different rooms and they are releasing it on their own record label. DIY at its finest!

Digging a little deeper, you find that this band is really quite interesting, and it’s reflected in their music. They use all sorts of instruments from melodicas, trombones and stylophones to a vintage £25 organ bought at a car boot sale!

The EP Golden Opportunities is available for purchase on 29th March 2010 and to get a taster here is a FREE DOWNLOAD yes.. FREE, we all like that word don’t we!

Johnny Flynn

Posted on 24 March 2010 by milkyteakid

Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit (great name!) are a folk rock band with some catchy songs. It appears that folk is coming back into fashion in the UK, crossing over in the mainstream pop market should not be too difficult.

I can imagine that this band would have the same effect on audiences as Mumford & Sons do, from what I have experienced anyway!
… Coincidentally I just looked at tour dates and they are supporting Mumford & Sons in Europe in the next few months.
They are touring the UK in May – I think I shall go along, coming?

Laura Marling

Laura Marling’s new album has just been released called I Speak Because I Can and here is a Spotify link for you lovely people:

I Speak Because I Can – Laura Marling

I really like Laura’s style and mix of traditional styles and modern folk, the new album has some great songs, like Rambling Man and the mellow haunting of Hope In The Air.

I think this will be a popular album, and one where you really pay attention to the lyrics, which doesn’t happen so much these days. Unless that is your first point of interest when checking out new music, in which case – good on ya!
