Felix Fables are back with another artistic music video for their second single of their debut album In This Town called The Inventor. Yes they are my friends so of course I will say I like it – well hush you doubters, even if they weren’t I would like it. You should too, its folk fuelled fiery storytelling and my favourite is the dissonant banjo! There’s not enough of it in the music world in my opinion.
General idea of the video is that ‘The band are lost in a pale world playing the soundtrack to a dysfunctional relationship between two unlikely lovers with odd self destructive tendencies’ That about sums it up I would say!
A trio of talented sisters from Watford make up The Staves. I was reintroduced to them by a friend through the video below and I think you should all have a listen as well. I would like to see more of these types of artists in the charts and on the mainstream radio stations, but for now we will have to settle for blogs I guess!
They have beautiful harmonies, being sisters will add to that I’m sure, and they write really GOOD songs. The Staves are an enchanting group, more please. Listen to Mexico below.
Young Astronaut release their debut album Fawn as a free download for everyone and anyone. The ten track LP demonstrates a “fusion of acoustic, folk and indie with lyrical content ranging from eternal innocence to sofa surfing to a love story between an artist and a villain.”
The resulting record is an emotionally charged debut from Young Astronaut, blending influences from English night folk to post-grunge with a maturity and finesse that falls somewhere between Ben Howard, Frank Turner and a young Radiohead.
Have a listen to the album below and if you like what you hear then head over to their website and collect your free download! www.youngastronaut.co.uk
New live dates confirmed for the band below:
09th Feb: On The Rocks, Bournemouth
15th Feb: The Anvil, Bournemouth
21st March: The Good Ship, London
If you are a fan of country/blues artists like the Civil Wars and The Secret Sisters then you should take a listen to Lucette. She recently supported The Secret Sisters at Union Chapel in Islington, London and blew the audience away with her performance. That venue always adds something special to the atmosphere as well, it’s one of my favourites. She has a sultry, laid back way of singing that draws you into the song even more, well worth a listen. Check out her single Baby I Want You Home.
“Creating music just comes naturally to me,” she says, when asked to reflect on the experience. “There’s not a day that I don’t feel like sitting down at the piano and singing.”
As Lucette recalls, “I used to get made fun of for carrying a tin Elvis lunch box to school. Other girls wanted Barbies; I wanted Blue Suede Shoes.”
We met the Wilderness of Manitoba before their fantastic gig at The Slaughtered Lamb in London. It is a atmospheric little venue with plenty of sofas and chairs to make you feel comfortable, there was also a fair amount of moody lighting.
We had a chat with the band and they performed an acoustic song for us as well! I would highly recommend checking this band out live when they come back to the UK, great songs and musicianship and the songwriting was impressive. Sometimes just sitting back and fully appreciating live music is the only way to go!
