Jessie J did what she does best on Radio One’s Live Lounge earlier today. One of the most talked about pop stars at the moment showed off her vocal skills on acoustic version of Domino and a cover of Rihanna’s hit, We Found Love. You probably guessed we are fans of Jessie J here on Milky Tea Kid, but it’s because she was amazing live when we first saw her and she is even more impressive now. Check out the videos below and see for yourself!
So the audio for this track has been out there in the Internet world for a while now but the official music video has just been released. It is a fairly intense video and in true Rihanna style I think it will cause some debate and garner a lot of interest.
“We’ve never done a video like this before. This is probably one of the deepest videos I’ve ever done. Its all about love and love being like a drug… you definitely get that from this. The good feeling of it and the dangers of it. That’s what this video is about.” – Rihanna
To watch the making of the video (Part 1) watch below:
I’m not a huge Leona Lewis fan… something about her was odd to me but there is no denying she can sing. I recently came across this video of her performing her song Better With Time live and what I really like about it is the arrangement and music. I didn’t think the original single was amazing. She then goes into a snippet of Rihanna’s single Man Down and I think it really works. What do you think?
Before anyone else says it, yes I know many music videos are yet another marketing platform to get the artist out in the mainstream media – therefore the more provocative the better. However, I do feel that the advocacy groups that are outraged that Rihanna shoots a man in her new video for Man Down are clutching at straws somewhat… allow me to elaborate.
Paul Porter, co-founder of Industry Ears and a former music programmer for BET, in a statement called the video “an inexcusable, shock-only, shoot-and-kill theme song. In my 30 years of viewing BET, I have never witnessed such a cold, calculated execution of murder in primetime. Viacom’s standards and practices department has reached another new low. … If Chris Brown shot a woman in his new video and BET premiered it, the world would stop. Rihanna should not get a pass and BET should know better. The video is far from broadcast-worthy.”
First off Mr. Porter, if Chris Brown shot a woman in his music video then the world would think that his proven and documented violence had escalated and next time he will shoot his girlfriend, not just bruise her up. Secondly, is the whole point of the video going unnoticed here? How is it that there is no mention of the suggested rape scene, or about the lyrical content of the song. I don’t personally see anything promoting the use of gun violence.
Before the video was released Rihanna herself sent out this message on twitter that the video has a “very strong underlying message 4 girls like me.”
On a lighter note I like the song and that her accent comes through in it.
There isn’t anything wrong with wanting a good shot of pop music every now and again, some may deny it but secretly they love the hooks, the melodies and the beats. The fact that scantily dressed beautiful women are involved may also have something to do with it… I’m not sure.
So I’m serving up a couple of tasty treats for you today, one of which is Beyonce’s new track which was leaked earlier this week, intentionally? Who knows… but the official track was released yesterday.
Reaction to the song has been that it is a classic Beyonce sound and reminiscent of Destiny’s Child era. Some of my favourite lyrics are:
“Boy you know you love it/How we’re smart enough to make these millions/Strong enough to bare the children/Then get back to business”
“This goes out to all my girls/That’s in the club rocking the latest/Who will buy it for themselves and get more money later”
A teaser for the music video has also been released:
And now onto Rihanna and Britney. I’m sure you all have heard Rihanna’s single S&M… well not everyone knows that Britney recorded a version before deciding she didn’t want the song therefore leaving it for Rihanna to pick it up. Now they have done a remix with the two singers and it has been popular on radio stations so far. Personally I don’t like it. What do you think?
