The Alabama Shakes have arrived with their fantastic debut album, Boys & Girls. A cross between youthful rock ‘n’ roll energy and aching blues tales of life, loss and love.
The rootsy sound you hear when listening to this album perfectly depicts where the band came from. Each member has a love for a different type of music and they are far from manufactured, which gives them a cool edge, which in turn makes you cool for listening to them. (I’m quite sure that’s how it works). One thing that is consistent throughout and possibly the focal point of the album, is the intensely heartfelt vocal performances from front woman, Brittany Howard.
Miguel combines a nice mixture of soul, RnB, rock and even motown in his music. I particularly like his new single, Arch & Point. The video by American songwriter, artist and producer Miguel is a cool concept and it’s nice to see an RnB artist rocking a Les Paul too! What do you think? I think this song is going to be quite popular…
A trio of talented sisters from Watford make up The Staves. I was reintroduced to them by a friend through the video below and I think you should all have a listen as well. I would like to see more of these types of artists in the charts and on the mainstream radio stations, but for now we will have to settle for blogs I guess!
They have beautiful harmonies, being sisters will add to that I’m sure, and they write really GOOD songs. The Staves are an enchanting group, more please. Listen to Mexico below.
“A powerful and uplifting onslaught of meticulously constructed, hook-laden rock”. That was more or less the reaction I had to The Scholars and their new track This Heart’s Built To Break. A British version of The Killers maybe, but they have some good theatrical elements with a dose of hard hitting rock that set them apart.
Along with the release of their music video for the single they are making the single available for free download, which no one will complain about!
You have heard me talk about My Grey Horse before, mainly because they are an exciting new force in the alt/rock world with killer harmonies and annoyingly catchy melodies. I still maintain that you should keep your eyes open for these guys. Here is the video for their single Let Me Know (About The Waves).
