‘I’m the new Ray Charles’

British Youtube musician and personality (oooh snazzy), Alex Day had a chat with us about his latest release, Lady Godiva. What is so interesting about this guy, besides his clothes, is his outlook on the music industry and his perseverance when going it alone. It works because he manages to get into the top 40 charts with no record label support and no radio support… which is quite an achievement these days.

Lana Del Rey has released a new official video for her rather good single, Blue Jeans. It’s mostly water based and overtly sexual… and beautifully shot I have to say. We also get to see that tattooed fella who was in the Born To Die video who appears to attempt to drown her in the end. Is this a recurring theme that he kills her in every video? That’s intriguing at least.

I think I still prefer the ‘homemade’ video for Blues Jeans. There was something different, quirky and intriguing about it… then it all went a bit ‘major record label’ and tits up so to speak. I jest obviously, I still love the music. What do you think?

That’s right, Willy Mason is back once again! He hasn’t released an album for about five years and his third one is much anticipated. The yet to be titled album is released later this year and to keep us going until then, Mason has released a track for free download called Restless Fugitive. Listen to it below:

Allow me to introduce a cool London trio called Flash Fiktion who make some very catchy synth pop music. I have had a sneaky listen to their album which is out in March and it is full of danceable pop tracks with hooks galore. I like the fact that the band recorded the album by themselves saying, “We have done most of the recording without the help of studio producers. We’re not fans of working by committee!” I won’t compare them to any other band but take a listen to the track in the video below and see for yourself why I think they might do quite well this year!
