Yuna is a Malaysian singer-songwriter who at first I thought had a touch of Erykah Badu about her sound and vocals, but Yuna describes her music as “a cross between Mary Poppins and Coldplay”, which is amazing!
I love this track for it’s chilled out vibe and it’s inspiring lyrical content. It’s a no nonsense, ‘get up, get out, go and live your life’ type of attitude and it does makes you think more about yourself… well it did with me anyway! The track was produced by Pharrell Williams and she was quite sought after by labels in the US after making a name for herself in Malaysia already.
I believe her debut album is released Spring 2012 but I don’t have an exact date.
Lana Del Rey has released a new official video for her rather good single, Blue Jeans. It’s mostly water based and overtly sexual… and beautifully shot I have to say. We also get to see that tattooed fella who was in the Born To Die video who appears to attempt to drown her in the end. Is this a recurring theme that he kills her in every video? That’s intriguing at least.
I think I still prefer the ‘homemade’ video for Blues Jeans. There was something different, quirky and intriguing about it… then it all went a bit ‘major record label’ and tits up so to speak. I jest obviously, I still love the music. What do you think?
Not only is it one of my favourite songs, but it’s also a great cover by another of my favourite artists. Here is Lissie performing Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac in her signature style. What do you think?
The cover is from a new release she has out called Covered Up With Flowers EP where she pays tribute to some of her favourite classics. I don’t think Go Your Own Way is available in all countries, but you can watch the video above!
Tracklisting:
‘Pursuit Of Happiness’ by Kid Cudi
‘Go Your Own Way’ by Fleetwood Mac
‘Bad Romance’ by Lady Gaga
‘Games People Play’ by Joe South
‘Nothing Else Matters’ by Metallica
‘Ship Song’ by Nick Cave
You have heard me talk about My Grey Horse before, mainly because they are an exciting new force in the alt/rock world with killer harmonies and annoyingly catchy melodies. I still maintain that you should keep your eyes open for these guys. Here is the video for their single Let Me Know (About The Waves).
I interviewed Stooshe just before Christmas and the girls were charismatic, honest, gave an air of determination and drive and were quite frankly hilarious! Having released an ‘x-rated’ song and video online of their single F*** Me, they became quite a hit and now they have released a new video for their more youngster friendly audience called Love Me. I recommend watching the Stooshe Interview as the girls talk about the music industry and why they are doing what they are doing.
